“Not everyone gets to retire on their own terms”: Alyssa Healy gears up for farewell Test vs India

Alyssa Healy will lead Australia for the last time. According to her, she doesn’t expect to get nervous before the one‑off pink‑ball Test versus India starting Friday at the WACA. With the multi‑format series poised at 8–4 in Australia’s favour, the team is focused on delivering a win as a tribute to their departing captain.

“I honestly don’t expect to feel sad. I’m just thrilled about what lies ahead after cricket, and I’m truly thankful for all the experiences I’ve had up to this point. The past 20 years in cricket have been incredible, and now I’m excited to see what the future holds. It feels even more thrilling than anything I’ve experienced so far,” she said.

“I know not everyone gets to retire on their own terms, so being able to finish here at home wearing the Baggy Green is really special. It’s not something I would have planned, but having this chance is truly unique and memorable,” she added.

“I’m really looking forward to it, and with the series standing as it is right now, the chance to go for a win makes it feel even more special,” Alyssa mentioned.

Alyssa has now turned her attention to the longer format, chasing a maiden Test century. The keeper-batter is back at the ground where she was dismissed on 99 against South Africa two summers ago.

“I’m not aiming to get out for a duck. If a big score comes, great, but my main goal is to help the team succeed.

“I’m in great form and hope I can carry that into the pink-ball game. The series has been fiercely contested, and being 8‑4 up is pleasing,” she concluded.
