Ending Iran war is first priority, after that focus will be on Cuba: Trump

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration is currently focusing on ending the ongoing war with Iran. He said that after the conflict in the Middle East ends, the focus of America’s foreign policy can also shift towards Cuba.

Trump made this statement during an event organized at the White House. The event was held in honor of Major League Soccer champions Inter Miami CF, where he also spoke about the ongoing conflict with Iran and future US foreign policy priorities.

Ending Iran war is priority

Speaking at the program, Trump made it clear that at present his administration is focusing on ending the ongoing war with Iran. He said that ending this conflict is his biggest priority right now.

Referring to the war with Iran, Trump said, "We want to end it first. But in no time you and many other incredible people will be heading back to Cuba."

Gave a big hint regarding Cuba

President Trump also indicated that America’s attention may turn towards Cuba in the future. He said that the Havana government seems eager to reach an agreement with Washington.

Trump said, "Cuba is desperate for compromise," He also added that many Cuban-Americans would eventually return to the island. "We want you back, and we don’t want to lose you."

Iran claims progress in war

During his address, Trump also claimed progress in the ongoing war with Iran. He said that American and Israeli forces are jointly advancing rapidly and weakening the enemy.

Trump said, "The United States military, together with its brilliant Israeli allies, continues to completely destroy the enemy, well ahead of schedule."

Claim of Iran’s military capability being weak

The US President also claimed that Iran’s military capabilities had weakened significantly during the war. According to him, Iran’s air force and air defense system are no longer effective.

Trump said, "They have neither an air force nor an air defense system," And further claimed that Iran’s navy has also suffered huge losses. He said that America "Destroyed 24 ships in three days."

However, detailed information related to these operations was not shared and these claims could not be immediately independently verified.

Trump claims Iran wants talks

Trump also indicated that the Iranian leadership is now trying to negotiate an end to the war. He said that contacts are being made from Iran for an agreement.

“They’re calling, they’re asking, ‘How do we make a deal?'” Trump said.
He added, “I said, ‘You’re taking a while, and we want to fight them more than anything right now.'”

He also appealed to Iranian diplomats to cooperate in reshaping the future of their country.

Trump said that those who will cooperate will "can help us shape a new and better Iran that has immense potential," He also warned that continued conflict could have serious consequences.

Oil market and US strategy

President Trump said that despite the war, global oil markets have now become largely stable. However, he admitted that this conflict has affected American priorities for some time.

Trump said, "Oil prices have now stabilized to a great extent. The prices were very low, but I had to take this little detour."

He also indicated that more steps could be taken soon to ease pressure on energy markets.

At present the White House says that America’s entire focus is on the ongoing conflict in Iran. Trump indicated that once this war ends, the focus of US policy could increasingly shift towards Cuba.
