US Strikes Iranian Drone Launcher: The US military claimed on Friday morning that it launched a powerful attack on Iran’s drone carrier ship IRIS Shahid Bagheri, causing a fire on the ship. US Central Command (CENTCOM) also shared black-and-white video, showing the ship on fire and smoke after multiple attacks. However, Iranian officials have not yet officially confirmed this attack. Also, Tehran has not made public any information about any damage.

CENTCOM said in its ex-post that “US forces are not backing down from the mission to sink Iran’s entire navy.” It described the drone carrier as “approximately the size of a World War II aircraft carrier,” but did not specify where the attack took place. The Central Command reiterated that they are not giving any relaxation in targeting Iran’s Navy.

Why was IRIS special Shahid Bagheri?

This ship is special because it has been named IRIS Shahid Bagheri and it was originally a container ship, which was converted into a ship carrying large drones. Iran started it in February 2025. According to reports, the ship has a runway of about 180 meters long, which allows drones to fly, and it can travel about 22,000 nautical miles without stopping at any port.

Experts believe that such drone carriers can add new dimensions to Iran’s military strategy. It has the ability to operate silently over long ranges and be used as a launching platform, giving Iran increased range and capability to conduct drone-based attacks.

The targeting by US forces indicates that they are taking active steps to weaken Iranian naval capabilities.
