Dahi Vada Recipe: Make pudding-like dahi vada at home, a favorite dish for special occasions

  • 1 cup washed urad dal
  • 2 cups fresh curd
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp black salt
  • salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • sweet tamarind chutney
  • green chutney
  • oil for frying
  • green coriander for garnishing

How to make Dahi Vada

Dahi Vada is a delicious snack which is much liked. To make Dahi Vada like pudding, first wash the urad dal thoroughly and soak it in water for about 5-6 hours. When the lentils swell well, drain the water and grind them in the mixer.

Keep in mind that the batter should not be too thin. After this, take out this batter in a big vessel and beat it well for 5-7 minutes. This will make the batter light and fluffy, which makes the vadas soft.

Now heat oil in the pan. When the oil becomes medium hot, drop small vadas into the oil with the help of hands or spoon. Fry them on medium flame till they turn golden.

When the vadas are fried well, take them out and immediately put them in lukewarm salt water for 10-15 minutes. This will make the vadas even softer. The taste of curd is also very important for Dahi Vada.

For this, beat fresh curd well. Balance the taste by adding a little salt and sugar to it. Due to this the taste of curd becomes slightly sweet and tasty.

Now press the water-soaked vadas gently to remove excess water and keep them in a plate. Pour a good amount of whipped curd over them.

Then sprinkle sweet tamarind chutney, green chutney, red chili powder and roasted cumin powder on top. Finally garnish with green coriander. Delicious halwai style dahi vada is ready.
