Ferrari To Debut 849 Testarossa Hybrid Supercar In India On March 14th

Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari has officially announced that it will debut its latest flagship model, the 849 Testarossa, in India on March 14, 2026. This highly anticipated launch brings one of the most powerful production cars ever built by the brand straight to local shores. Acting as the direct replacement for the previous flagship, the SF90 Stradale, the new 849 Testarossa revives a legendary nameplate from the 1980s. When it officially goes on sale, it is expected to carry a staggering starting price of Rs 10.37 crore, ex-showroom, before buyers even begin to look at the extensive optional extras list.

The new hypercar is designed to be the ultimate expression of Ferrari’s road-going capabilities, effectively blending aggressive, retro-inspired design cues with cutting-edge hybrid technology. Upon its launch, it will directly rival the Lamborghini Revuelto in the ultra-exclusive, high-performance segment.

A 1000-Plus Horsepower Hybrid Setup

At the very core of the 849 Testarossa is a deeply reworked version of the plug-in hybrid powertrain originally utilized in the SF90. The combustion element is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that has been heavily modified with larger turbochargers, revised cylinder heads, and a new engine block. This internal combustion engine alone produces a massive 830 horsepower.

To push the performance even further, the V8 is paired with three independent electric motors. Two of these motors are mounted on the front axle to provide active torque vectoring and all-wheel-drive capability, while the third is sandwiched directly between the engine and the gearbox. Combined, this complex hybrid system delivers a colossal total output of 1,036 horsepower and 842 Nm of peak torque. Power is funneled to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Extreme Performance And Aerodynamics

This massive power output translates to extreme straight-line performance. Ferrari claims the 849 Testarossa can sprint from a standstill to 100 kmph in a blistering 2.3 seconds, and hit 200 kmph in just 5.8 seconds. If the driver keeps their foot planted, the car will continue accelerating to a claimed top speed of 330 kmph. Because it is a plug-in hybrid, it features a small 7.45 kWh battery pack that allows for limited silent driving, offering a claimed electric-only range of up to 25 kilometres.

Beyond brute force, the car features highly advanced aerodynamics. The exterior design incorporates huge side intakes with horizontal strakes that directly mimic the original 1984 Testarossa. A split rear spoiler and a massive rear diffuser complete the aerodynamic package. These elements generate up to 415 kilograms of downforce at 250 kmph, which is crucial for keeping the car stable at high speeds.

Inside, the cabin is strictly driver-focused, utilizing a unique split-cockpit arrangement that features a massive 16-inch digital display for the driver and a dedicated 9-inch screen for the passenger. Ferrari has also integrated advanced vehicle dynamics software, including the latest iteration of its Side Slip Control system, to manage the immense power delivery intelligently across all four wheels.

The Local Performance Portfolio

The introduction of the Testarossa adds another distinct flavour to the growing Ferrari lineup available locally. For buyers seeking a highly focused, mid-engine track weapon but at a relatively lower price point, the brand offers the 296 GTB.

Priced at approximately Rs 5.4 crore ex-showroom, the 296 GTB utilizes a smaller 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system. Despite having fewer cylinders, it still produces a massive 818 horsepower and serves as the brand’s incredibly capable entry-level mid-engine supercar.

On the completely opposite end of the spectrum is the Purosangue. Operating as the brand’s first ever four-door crossover, the Purosangue commands a massive starting price of Rs 10.5 crore. It caters to a completely different buyer demographic, offering seating for four, elevated ground clearance, and a naturally aspirated V12 engine. The Purosangue has effectively opened up the brand to wealthy buyers who previously avoided low-slung supercars due to practical ground clearance concerns.

Grand Tourers And The New Amalfi

Beyond mid-engine performance cars and heavy crossovers, Ferrari maintains a strong heritage of building front-engine Grand Tourers designed for long-distance cruising. The brand recently updated this specific segment by introducing the new Amalfi, which serves as the direct replacement for the highly successful Roma. The Roma, which previously retailed around Rs 3.56 crore, was considered the most accessible entry point into the brand.

The new Amalfi moves the goalposts further. Priced at Rs 5.59 crore, the Amalfi retains a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a 2+2 seating configuration. Under its long-sculpted bonnet sits an updated 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 631 horsepower, offering a more relaxed, elegant driving experience compared to the aggressive, track-oriented nature of the new Testarossa. With this updated portfolio, ranging from the practical Purosangue and the elegant Amalfi GT to the extreme 849 Testarossa, the Italian manufacturer now offers a highly distinct product for every specific tier of the ultra-luxury performance market.
