Will AI destroy the value of CS degree, study revealed, know what will be the future
Surprising figures revealed in the survey
However, amidst these apprehensions, the 2026 Winter Salary Survey of the ‘National Association of Colleges and Employers’ (NACE) presents a new and positive picture. According to this report of ‘Fortune’ magazine, the starting salary of computer science graduates has seen an increase instead of a decline. Currently, the average starting salary of a CS graduate has reached $81,535 (approximately Rs 74 lakh), which is 7% more than last year. This data proves that companies not only want to hire these students but are also offering them attractive packages.
Trust of big companies remains intact
This survey is not a general estimate, but it includes the opinions of 150 leading Fortune 500 companies like Chevron, CVS Health, PepsiCo and Verizon. According to the report, there is a demand for Bachelor’s degree holders in the market, but the students who have done Masters in Computer Science are in highest demand. Code.org CEO Karim Meghji believes that this situation is not surprising. He argues that only those who have a basic and deep understanding of the technology will be able to lead the future, because AI also requires a skilled human mind to run and direct it.
Relief news for Indian students

America is considered the tech hub of the world and is the most preferred destination for Indian students. According to the Open Doors 2025 report, out of approximately 3.63 lakh Indian students studying in the US, 43.4% are studying Computer Science. The uncertainty that arose regarding the career of these students after the advent of AI has reduced to a great extent after this study. It is clear that the methods of coding have changed, but the relevance of a computer science degree has not ended.
What is the future of AI in coding?
Big companies like IBM have recently announced to provide entry-level jobs to millions of graduates, which is an indication that the tech world is not yet completely dependent on AI. Experts believe that now just knowing coding will not be enough, students will have to combine their skills with AI. There will be no less job opportunities for students who understand the nuances of technology. Overall, this study gives a big boost to those Indian students who are taking degree in foreign countries by paying huge fees, they will not have to look for jobs in future.
