TTP’s ‘Operation Khyber’ started in Pakistan, security forces and government facilities targeted
New Delhi: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a terrorist organization operating in Pakistan, has announced its new military operation ‘Operation Khyber’ for the year 2026. In the message issued by the organization, it has been said that their annual campaign ‘Al-Khandak’ has ended and now this new campaign has been started in its place.
According to TTP spokesperson, this campaign is being carried out with the aim of carrying out large-scale attacks against Pakistan’s security agencies and government institutions. The organization has instructed its fighters to be active in different parts of the country and target security forces.
Claim of coordinated attacks in several districts
With the announcement of ‘Operation Khyber’, TTP has claimed to carry out coordinated attacks in many areas of Pakistan. According to the report, a total of 31 attacks have been reported in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province within the last 24 hours.
Regarding these attacks, the organization says that 12 attacks were carried out in North Waziristan district, while 7 attacks have been reported in Chitral district. Apart from this, 5 attacks have been claimed in North Waziristan itself and 2 attacks each in Peshawar, Bannu and Tank districts. There has been talk of one attack in Mohammad district. According to TTP, posts and patrolling parties of Pakistani security forces were targeted in these attacks.
The campaign will be conducted under guerrilla strategy
TTP says that during ‘Operation Khyber’ their fighters will adopt guerrilla warfare tactics. In this campaign, strategies like ambush, attack on security posts, sniper firing and suicide attacks can be used.
According to the organization, the main objective of this campaign is to further strengthen its ideology and influence in Pakistan.
‘Al-Khandak’ campaign concludes
TTP said that their last major military operation ‘Al-Khandak’ was launched last year, which has now been ended. During this campaign, the organization had claimed responsibility for attacks on many targets associated with Pakistan’s army and police.
However, the Pakistani government and security agencies often term these claims as propaganda made by the organization and say that they are exaggerated.
Experts expressed fear of increase in violence
Security experts believe that after the announcement of the new campaign, violence may increase especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and erstwhile tribal areas. There has been a steady increase in TTP attacks in these areas during the last few months.
In response to this, Pakistan Army is also carrying out several military operations against terrorists and security arrangements have been further strengthened in the border areas.
