Patna. An important information has come to light for ration card holders in Bihar. The state government has made it mandatory for the beneficiaries of the Public Distribution System (PDS) to get e-KYC done. The government has clarified that all the beneficiaries will have to complete their e-KYC by March 31, otherwise they may face difficulty in getting ration.
Why is e-KYC important?
According to the Food and Consumer Protection Department, the e-KYC process has been implemented to make the ration distribution system transparent and accurate. This will ensure that the benefits of the government scheme reach the right beneficiaries only. According to the department’s data, a large number of families have still not completed this process, due to which the government has had to extend the last date.
Many people are still away from the process
It is being told that about 18 percent of the beneficiaries in the state have not yet done e-KYC. Due to many families not having e-KYC, they may face difficulty in getting ration in future. Keeping this in mind, the government has extended the last date to March 31, giving another chance to the people.
The last date has been extended several times
Earlier, the last date for getting e-KYC done by the government was fixed as 15th February. But at that time very few number of beneficiaries completed this process. After this, the deadline was extended to February 28, yet a large number of people could not get e-KYC done. Finally, the government has once again extended the time till March 31 so that all the beneficiaries can complete the process.
People living in other states can also get e-KYC done
The government has also clarified that people from Bihar who are living in other states due to employment or other reasons do not need to come to Bihar for e-KYC. They can get their e-KYC done by visiting the Public Distribution System (PDS) shop located in any state of the country.
