Indian ports jammed due to US-Iran war! If the war doesn’t end then there will be trouble, goods worth crores stuck in the sea
Israel-Iran War: The escalating war and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have deeply affected global trade routes, especially supply chains passing through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. Its impact is now directly visible on India’s west coast ports, such as JNPT (Navi Mumbai) and Mundra Port (Gujarat), where logistics congestion has reached critical levels.
Major shipping companies halted bookings due to the uncertainty of the war and diverted ships to long-distance routes, such as the Cape of Good Hope. As a result, thousands of containers containing high-value agricultural and industrial products are stranded at India’s ports.
Impact on exports from India to Middle East
The most affected sector is agricultural products. The current estimates of stranded exports are as follows:
- Basmati rice: 4 lakh tonnes (2 lakh tonnes at Indian ports, 2 lakh tonnes in transit)
- Fresh grapes: 5,000–6,000 tons (300+ containers)
- Onion: 5,400 tonnes (150–200 containers, mainly from Nashik)
- Bananas and pomegranates: hundreds of tons (in 1,000+ reefer units)
- Frozen Buffalo Meat: Large Volume (300+ Perishable Containers)
- Total Middle East-bound containers: 23,000 units stranded at various western ports
This stranded cargo is causing a &8216;reverse-flow crisis&8217;in wholesale markets, such as Vashi APMC. Has arisen. Due to lack of export, excess goods are reaching the market, due to which prices are falling. For example, banana has come down from ₹25/kg to ₹15/kg.
Impact on imports and industry
Along with exports, imports have also been seriously affected:
- Sulfur and gypsum: 3 lakh tonne shipment delayed
- Dry fruits and dates: 600–700 containers stuck at hubs like Bandar Abbas
- LPG: 5 large carrier ships diverted or postponed
- Energy Security: 85% of India’s LPG and 55% of LNG imports depend on the Hormuz route
This disruption threatens to increase domestic gas prices and costs for industries.
Economic and logistics pressure
- There are 5,000+ containers grounded at JNPT, with storage and electricity charges at ₹8,500/day per container.
- Farmers and traders are suffering losses due to excess stock reaching the wholesale market.

The war in the Middle East is having a deep impact on India’s supply chain. If the Israel-Iran conflict prolongs, its impact on agricultural exports, industrial production, energy security, and domestic prices will be widespread and long-term.
