Donald Trump mocks Iran for apologizing to Gulf neighbours, ‘A defeated country…’
New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has taken a dig at Iran’s recent apology. Iran had apologized for the attacks on the neighboring countries of the Gulf region. Taking this as an opportunity, Trump called Iran a ‘lost country’ on social media. This statement can start a new debate in the politics of the Middle East.
Background of Iran’s apology
There has been tension between Iran and Gulf countries for a long time. Recently, Iran apologized for the attacks on its neighboring countries and promised not to take such action in future. This step is believed to have come after continuous pressure from America and Israel. This announcement by Iran could be a big change towards peace in the region, but Trump called it Iran’s weakness.
Trump’s social media post
79-year-old Trump shared a post on his social media platform Truth Social. He wrote that Iran is no longer the ‘grandfather’ of the Middle East, but has become a ‘lost country’. Trump claimed that this apology by Iran is the result of attacks by America and Israel.
He jokingly said that for the first time in thousands of years, Iran has accepted defeat from its neighbors. Trump also added in the post that Iran seemed to thank him and he responded by saying ‘You’re welcome’.
Trump’s claim and warning
Republican leader Trump further said that Iran was trying to take over the Middle East, but now it has been badly defeated. He warned that if Iran’s bad behavior continued, it could be completely destroyed.
Trump also mentioned that there could be more severe attacks on Iran today, which would threaten even those areas which have never been attacked before. His statement seems to be an attempt to make Iran look more weak.
