Message of ‘Give To Gain’ for gender equality

women’s day celebration

New Delhi: Every year on 8 March, International Women’s Day is celebrated with great pomp across the world. This day is not only an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women, but also to spread awareness about gender equality and highlight the need for change. In the year 2026, this day will fall on Sunday, when people will congratulate women at their homes, workplaces and on social media.

This year’s theme

This year’s theme ‘Give To Gain’ has special significance as it shows that when we provide time, resources, education or guidance to women, society becomes stronger. This means that by giving we ourselves also benefit. When someone donates, shares knowledge or provides opportunities, it opens new doors for women and creates a better world for all. It is not just a slogan, but an idea that encourages cooperation and generosity.

Deep message of ‘Give To Gain’

Under this theme, it is being emphasized that every individual, organization and community should contribute generously to promote gender equality. Donating, mentoring, training or simply donating time—all these small steps accelerate women’s progress. When women move forward, families, economies and societies also become stronger. It is a mutual benefit, where the giver also benefits.

History of Women’s Day

Women’s Day began in 1908, when more than 15,000 women in New York demonstrated for better pay, shorter working hours, and the right to vote. This historic demonstration became the foundation of the fight for women’s rights. Two years later, in 1910, Clara Zetkin proposed celebrating International Women’s Day at the Copenhagen Conference.

Global celebration since 1911

Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland in 1911. This day became a symbol of women’s solidarity. Gradually this movement spread across the world and the demand for women’s rights got stronger. Even today this festival keeps the same spirit alive.

March 8 selection

On 8 March 1917, Russian women organized a major strike demanding ‘Bread and Peace’. This put pressure on the government and women got the right to vote. This date was fixed in the Gregorian calendar. It was officially recognized by the United Nations in 1975, since then Global Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8.

Today’s significance: Need for change

Today reminds us that there is still a lot to be done. The theme ‘Give To Gain’ inspires us that big change is possible with small contributions. Let’s respect women this March 8 and take active steps for gender equality.
