Ranbir Kapoor remembers the wild Holi parties of RK Studio
Entertainment:Holi parties at RK studios were once considered an important part of the film industry’s social calendar. Known for their huge scale and energy, these celebrations were said to bring together actors, directors, musicians, technicians and crew members to overcome the highs and lows in a star-driven ecosystem. But for a young Ranbir, this environment seemed scary. “I was very young, so it was a very scary environment for me,” he recalled. He described scenes where “everybody was painted black and various other colors, everybody was being thrown into these trucks,” meaning that guests were mockingly picked up and thrown into the trucks, and drenched in paint and water.
Filmmaker Rahul Rawail, who was present during the conversation, agreed that the chaos and excitement of those functions was part of their charm. Ranbir also told what made those celebrations special. “I heard that not just actors and actresses, but everyone in the film industry used to attend,” he said, adding that these parties were open to workers from all departments.
Over the years, such large-scale Holi gatherings have declined, especially after RK Studios was sold following a major fire in 2017. However, these stories continue to offer a glimpse of a different era of Bollywood friendship.
