ICC T20 World Cup final today: Suryakumar gave a befitting reply to Santner’s comment, said- ‘All the same line…’
Ahmedabad, 7 March. Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav played down Kiwi counterpart Mitchell Santner’s comments about silencing the home crowd on the eve of the ICC T20 World Cup final to be played on Sunday, saying such statements before big matches are predictable.
Earlier, Santner had said that his team will try to pacify the packed Indian crowd in the final with the host team at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Santner’s words before Sunday’s final were similar to Pat Cummins’ statement before the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final at the same venue, when Australia defeated India.
Santner, 34, said, ‘The aim is to silence the crowd. There are a lot of variables in T20 cricket, and it keeps changing sometimes. If we keep doing our work like this then we can beat other big teams. Obviously, there is a lot of pressure on India to win this World Cup at home.
‘Everyone is sticking the same line, say something new’
When asked about Santner’s comments, Suryakumar Yadav replied with a wry smile, showing that such things are now known to opposing teams before big matches. He told reporters, ‘Everyone is sticking to the same line. Say something new.’
The 35-year-old Indian captain, who is the second-highest run-scorer for India in the T20 World Cup 2026, admitted that leading the team in the World Cup final has its own pressure. However, he said that he is determined to take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy the moment.
Dressing room atmosphere is good and positive
Suryakumar said that the Indian camp is enjoying the opportunity of playing the World Cup final at home. He described the atmosphere of the dressing room as good and positive. “It’s a special feeling and everyone is very excited,” he said. There is a very good atmosphere in our group. We are waiting for the big final.
Can’t deny pressure as a team leader
He said, ‘As a leader, there will be pressure, I cannot deny it. There will definitely be extra pressure, there is excitement to play the World Cup final, that too in India.
Marat’s eyes on creating many histories
It is noteworthy that the defending champion India, ready to play its second consecutive and fourth final in total, is eyeing the third title. In this sequence he can create many histories. For example, till date no team has been able to win the title twice consecutively and no country has been able to become champion three times. Also, till date no team has been able to get title success at home.
Whereas in the T20 World Cup, India has never been able to win in three meetings with New Zealand so far. On the other hand, New Zealand, who reached the final for the second time with a spectacular nine-wicket win over South Africa in the semi-finals, is in search of its first T20 World Cup title.
