Probe ordered after 90-year-old woman gang-raped by four in Madhya Pradesh
Khandwa: A wave of anger swept through Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district following a chilling report of a nonagenarian woman being targeted and gang-raped by four masked intruders. The sheer brutality of the attack on a vulnerable elderly citizen has prompted the Madhya Pradesh police to launch an intensive, high-level manhunt.
The night of the ordeal
The horror unfolded late Thursday night in a remote village approximately 55 kilometres from the district headquarters. The victim, a woman in her 90s, was alone in her small hut located amid an agricultural field when the four men, their faces hidden behind masks, allegedly forced their way in and committed the assault.
The crime remained undiscovered until Friday morning, when the survivor contacted her daughter, who resides in a nearby village. Recognising the gravity of her mother’s trauma and physical state, the daughter immediately transported her to the district hospital.
Condition and medical care
Upon arrival at the medical facility, hospital staff alerted the authorities after assessing the victim’s injuries. Khandwa Superintendent of Police (SP) Manoj Rai provided an update on Saturday, stating that while the injuries sustained were serious, the victim is currently in stable condition. Medical professionals have confirmed she is out of immediate danger and is receiving ongoing treatment and support.
The legal hammer falls
Law enforcement has responded with a massive mobilisation of resources. A formal case has been registered under Section 70 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the specific legal provision on gang rape.
To ensure the perpetrators are caught swiftly, the law enforcement agencies have taken several measures.A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established, led personally by an Additional Superintendent of Police to investigate the case.
Three separate tactical teams have been deployed to comb the area and follow up on forensic leads to track down the masked assailants. Also, the police have officially announced a Rs 10,000 reward for any citizen providing information that leads to the successful arrest of the suspects.
SP Manoj Rai emphasised that the investigation is being treated with the highest priority, as authorities work to restore a sense of safety to the rural community and secure justice for the elderly survivor.
