Stalin is playing BJP’s trick in Tamil Nadu, will it get power through alliance with 21 parties?

The Election Commission may announce the election dates for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026 later this month. But before this, both the factions of the state have geared up to build strength among the people on the ground. Chief Minister MK Stalin is exploring all possibilities to come to power, he is at the last stage of exploring the possibilities. Now considering the time, CM Stalin is putting his plans on the ground. The most important link in this is ticket distribution.

In fact, under the leadership of Stalin, his party DMK has formed a huge alliance. The name of the alliance is Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes a total of 21 parties. Congress is also a partner in this. DMK will give share in 234 assembly seats of the state to these allies. Like always, Congress has once again become a part of this alliance. DMK has offered Congress to contest elections on 28 seats this time, which the party has accepted. However, earlier the Congress had demanded the DMK to contest on more seats, but later it settled at 28.

Alliance of 21 small parties in Tamil Nadu

Apart from this, DMK has included 21 small parties in the secular progressive alliance in Tamil Nadu. CM Stalin has given seats to many of these parties to contest and by keeping many parties in alliance, it will increase the support base in every corner of the state. It has been decided in this alliance that those who did not get seats in the elections will be given a share in the commissions if the government is formed later.

DMK has not formed an alliance of 21 parties in Tamil Nadu just like that, rather the party has learned this from BJP somewhere, which can be adopted to reach power in the state. In fact, BJP includes small parties in NDA in the elections at the Center and most of the states, so that any vote of the society falls in its alliance only.

DMK adopting BJP’s strategy?

By adopting this strategy, BJP won the assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. At that time, mainly Apna Dal and Nishad Party were with BJP. But, currently BJP has expanded its clan. For the 2027 elections, BJP has included Apna Dal, Nishad Party along with Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal.

Similarly, last year, BJP had contested the Bihar Assembly elections by keeping five parties together in NDA. BJP-JDU alliance achieved a historic victory in this election. NDA won 202 out of total 243 assembly seats in Bihar. Apart from BJP, NDA included JDU, LJP(RV), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. BJP had divided the seats by taking all the parties involved in the alliance into confidence. At the same time, the entire opposition (RJD, Congress and Left parties) was reduced to just 35 seats.

Talks going on about seat sharing

DMK is also moving forward in Tamil Nadu following the path of BJP. In fact, Chief Minister Stalin and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President K. Selvaperunthagai held an important meeting in Chennai on Saturday. In this meeting, the final approval was given on the distribution of assembly constituencies. Under the agreement between DMK and Congress, it has been decided that Congress will contest on 28 seats, while one seat has also been reserved for the Congress party in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Along with this, Stalin has given 1 Rajya Sabha seat to the state level party DMDK, so that it can get votes in the elections.

Which parties are included in the alliance?

However, seat sharing is still going on in the Secular Progressive Alliance. Agreements have been reached with some parties, while negotiations are ongoing with others. DMK has given 2 assembly seats to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). It got 3 seats in the 2021 elections. Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) has also been given 2 seats. Apart from this, 3 seats have been given to Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which will contest the elections on the DMK symbol.

At the same time, talks are going on regarding seat sharing with parties like Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, DMDK, VCK, MDMK, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Mayam etc.
