Amit Shah lashed out at Mamata: Home Ministry seeks report from Bengal government on President’s protocol violation case
President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to North Bengal has created a political storm in West Bengal. The President openly expressed his displeasure over the serious lapse in protocol and last minute change in the venue during the 9th International Santhal Conference held in Darjeeling district. The Union Home Ministry has taken the matter very seriously and has sought a detailed report from the state Chief Secretary by 5 pm, which requires clarification on protocol violations, non-disclosure of route information and other deficiencies.
President Murmu participated in the conference as the chief guest, but expressed deep sorrow when the original venue was changed from Bidhannagar (Phansidewa Block) to Goshaipur near Bagdogra Airport. He said that the new place was small, due to which a large number of Santhal tribals could not reach. Calling Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ‘little sister’, the President asked whether she was angry with him because neither the Chief Minister nor any minister arrived to welcome him.
Many serious lapses in protocol
According to sources, many rules were broken in the President’s Blue Book protocol. The major violation was non-receipt or see-off of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and DGP. Only the Mayor of Siliguri welcomed him. There was not even water in the washroom prepared for the President and the passageway was covered with garbage. Darjeeling DM, Siliguri CP and ADM are being told the responsibility for this.
Amit Shah’s sharp attack
Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave a strong reaction on X. He said that the TMC government of West Bengal has touched a new low by insulting the President of India while behaving anarchically. He called it an attack on the values of constitutional democracy and said that today every citizen who believes in democracy is feeling hurt and sad.
Shah further alleged that this incident highlights the disarray and decline of the TMC government. The government not only violates the rights of the citizens, but also does not respect the highest office like the President. Especially in the program of tribal brothers and sisters, such behavior is insulting to the entire country.
Mamata Banerjee’s counterattack
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rejected all the allegations and said that she fully respects the President, but it is not possible to attend every program. She told that she was sitting on dharna and had no information about this program. She clarified, ‘No information was given to the state government regarding the organizers, funding or organization of that program. Whenever the President comes or goes to the state, information is received about it, but there was no information about the related international conference nor was the state government a part of that program.’ This dispute has now taken a political color, where the Central and State governments are at loggerheads.
