England leaves for home first; South Africa and West Indies still stuck in India; Quinton de Kock’s sharp attack on ICC
New Delhi :Even before the end of the T20 World Cup, a new controversy has emerged in which South Africa’s star wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock has raised questions on the system of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Many teams that were out of the tournament are still stuck in India, while the England team has already left for their country. This situation has created anger among the players and that is why De Kock expressed his reaction on social media.
In fact, due to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia, air travel is being affected due to which some teams are facing delays in returning to their country from India. Because of this, many teams have had to stay in India even after being out of the tournament. The West Indies team was out of the tournament after losing against India on March 1, but despite this the team has not been able to leave India yet. Players are also continuously requesting for help through social media.
Similarly, the South African team was also out of the tournament after losing to New Zealand in the semi-finals on March 4. Despite this, the team is still in India and the players have to wait to return to their country. Players of both the teams are currently staying in Kolkata and have not yet received clear information about their return.
This whole matter gained momentum when the news of the England team returning home early came to light. According to reports, the England team is scheduled to fly from Mumbai to London on Saturday evening while the teams of South Africa and West Indies are still uncertain about their travel. On this matter, Quinton de Kock took a dig at ICC and said that it is quite funny that England is leaving India before them while other teams are still waiting.
De Kock wrote in his Instagram story that it is funny ICC, we have not heard anything yet and meanwhile England is somehow leaving ahead of us while West Indies and South Africa are still in the dark. He also indicated that the impact of some teams is more visible than others, which is strange.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has also reacted to this controversy. He wrote on social media platform The situation in South Africa is also the same. According to him, in such a situation all teams should be treated equally and decisions should not be taken only on the basis of strength.
It is believed that the South Africa and West Indies teams will leave together from Kolkata and will probably stop in Johannesburg before reaching Antigua. However, both the teams are still awaiting official confirmation of their travel and it is expected that they can leave India by Sunday.
