President Murmu in West Bengal : West Bengal : President Draupadi Murmu’s visit to West Bengal is full of politics. After the arrival of President Draupadi Murmu in West Bengal, it is mandatory for the Chief Minister of the respective state to be present to welcome her as per protocol. But Mamata Banerjee was not even present at the airport or the venue. This matter was also raised by President Murmu on the stage. President Draupadi Murmu had pointed out the absence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and state ministers at a tribal community event held near Bagdogra Airport on Saturday. He also questioned the decision to change the venue of the event. Mamata was called a younger sister by the President and expressed surprise that she was not there to welcome him.

Controversy has arisen out of this defamation case. The Union Home Secretary has issued summons to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal in this matter. Questioning why established protocols were not followed during the President’s visit, he has been asked to explain by 5 pm today. The Union Home Secretary has questioned the West Bengal Chief Secretary as to why the Blue Book of Security and Protocol Rules related to the President’s visit was not followed.

The President also expressed displeasure over the relatively low turnout at the event near Bagdogra. The event was originally scheduled to be held at Vidhannagar, but later the venue was changed. The President has expressed his displeasure. Also in the meeting, President Murmu said, “Normally when the President visits a state, the Chief Minister welcomes him and other ministers are present. But she (Mamata Banerjee) did not come. The Governor has changed, so she also could not come. I am here as the date is already fixed. Thank you all for coming.” President Draupadi Murmu has expressed his displeasure in such words.
