How did the prices fall?

In international markets, gold fell nearly 2% on Monday as a stronger US dollar pressured dollar-denominated bullion, while higher energy prices raised inflation concerns and further dampened hopes of an interest rate cut soon. US spot gold was down 1.7% at $5,082.51 an ounce by 0233 GMT. US gold futures for April delivery were down 1.4% at $5,099.40. The dollar reached a more than three-month high, making bullion expensive for those holding other currencies. Crude oil prices rose more than 20% to above $110 a barrel as the US-Israel war with Iran escalated, prompting some major Middle East oil producers to cut supply out of fear of a prolonged disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
