Kharge Said In Rajya Sabha India’s Energy Security Is Being Affected

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday expressed concern over the rapidly changing geopolitical situation in an important region of Asia. He said that this situation is not limited to that area only. This is also affecting India’s energy security. Besides, its impact is also visible on India’s global image and capability.

He said that India fulfills about 55 percent of its crude oil needs through imports from West Asia. If conflict increases in that area, it can have a direct impact on the economic stability of our country.

“I am grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to raise this issue,” Kharge told Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan. Kharge said he would like to request permission for a short-term discussion on the subject of India’s energy security in the context of emerging challenges under Rule 176.

He said that millions of Indians work in that region of Asia, whose security and livelihood depend on the stability there. There have also been reports of some Indian citizens being killed or missing in recent incidents.

He said that the increase in the price of LPG cylinder by about Rs 60 can also put additional burden on the common people. India imports oil worth about US$51 billion every year.

This is a subject directly related to the Indian economy and the lives of families. Therefore, the impact of these international events is now visible in India also. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge was asked by the Chairman to sit down.

The Chairman talked about giving Kharge an opportunity to speak later and said that at present External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is going to present his views in the House. This time the opposition MPs created a ruckus. Amidst the uproar, S Jaishankar expressed his views. But the opposition MPs continued sloganeering, after which the opposition walked out of the House.

Actually, the Leader of Opposition and opposition MPs wanted to present their views on this issue in the House. The Chairman gave an opportunity to Mallikarjun Kharge to speak in the beginning and after that he said that the Foreign Minister is giving official information in this regard.

After the Foreign Minister gives the information, he will give Kharge an opportunity to speak. But the opposition did not agree to this and the opposition MPs continued sloganeering in the House.
