New Delhi. Discussions regarding the 8th Pay Commission for Central Government employees have intensified. It is believed that lakhs of employees and pensioners may get big relief from this in the coming time. Based on the demands and possible recommendations of employee organizations, many indications of changes in salary, allowances and pension are emerging.

It is being told that if the new pay commission is implemented, there may be significant changes in the minimum wage, fitment factor and dearness allowance of the employees. Along with this, there is also a demand for amendment in the rules related to the family unit.

Expected date of implementation

According to sources, the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission may come out by the end of 2026. However, it can be considered effective from January 1, 2026. In this situation, employees can get arrears along with increased salary, which will give them additional financial benefits.

Big increase in minimum wage

At present the minimum basic pay of central government employees is Rs 18,000, which was fixed under the 7th Pay Commission. There is discussion that in the 8th Pay Commission, it can be increased to between Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000. If this happens, there can be a big increase in the monthly income of the employees.

Demand to increase fitment factor

Fitment factor is the basis through which the new salary of the employees is decided. In the 7th Pay Commission it was kept at 2.57. Employee organizations demand that it should be increased to 3.0 or more in the 8th Pay Commission. If this demand is accepted then a significant increase in the salaries of the employees is possible.

Proposal for change in family unit

Employee organizations have also raised the demand for changes in the family unit. At present it is considered to include three members, but it is proposed to increase it to five members, in which dependent parents can also be included. Experts believe that if this change is implemented then it may be possible to increase the basic salary of employees by about 60 to 66 percent.

online system for giving suggestions

The government has also started an online portal to take suggestions related to Pay Commission. Employees and their organizations can submit their suggestions or memorandum through this portal till 30 April 2026. This will help the Commission to understand the demands and needs of the employees.

Dearness allowance may be included in the basic salary

Another important possibility is that if Dearness Allowance (DA) reaches 50 per cent or more, it may be included in the basic pay. After this, the calculation of dearness allowance will be started afresh.
