India won the title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final of T20 World Cup 2026. With this historic victory, the Indian team achieved the feat of winning the trophy for the second consecutive time. Under the leadership of captain Suryakumar Yadav, India also became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil.
After this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Team India celebrated the victory till late night. Captain Suryakumar Yadav told that the celebration lasted so long that the players did not even get a chance to sleep properly.

The very next day of the victory, the captain made it clear that the team has now focused on the next big goal. He said that India’s next big dream is to win gold medal in Olympics. Actually, cricket will be included in the 2028 Olympics for the first time and Team India wants to capitalize on this historic opportunity.
Suryakumar Yadav said that the team will play the same aggressive and modern style of cricket in the future ICC tournaments, which has been adopted for some time. According to him, after 2024, the team has changed its playing style and now the T20 team will have to play the same level of cricket continuously. He said that the 2028 Olympics will be the biggest target for the Indian team and the T20 World Cup is also to be held in the same year.
The captain believes that when the team has been successful in winning the T20 World Cup twice in a row, then an attempt should be made to achieve this feat for the third time. He said that the team has talented players and if all the players work unitedly then this dream can also come true.
Surya included in the list of selected captains
With this victory, Suryakumar Yadav has joined the list of select captains of Indian cricket who have won the ICC trophy. Before him, Kapil Dev, Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur have achieved this feat. On being included in this special list, Suryakumar said that this is a very proud and emotional moment for him.
He said that he still cannot fully believe in this success. According to him, reaching this milestone is due to long hard work, discipline and sacrifice of many people. The captain said that when he returns to Mumbai and meets his family, friends and teammates, then perhaps he will feel the real joy of this achievement.
