State universities should charge examination fees as per the mandate, otherwise action will be taken: Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay.

Lucknow. State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay held a review meeting on Monday in his office room in the Assembly regarding the charging of fees by Lucknow University and affiliated colleges contrary to the government order. In the meeting, various topics related to fee structure, examination fees and financial management of universities were discussed in detail.

In the meeting, the Higher Education Minister directed that the examination fees should be charged to the state universities only as per the prescribed mandate. He said that if any university charges more examination fee than the prescribed fee, it can be audited and action will be taken as per requirement.

Minister Yogendra Upadhyay said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is committed to making education accessible, affordable, transparent and student-friendly. He said that unnecessary increase in fees makes it difficult for poor and economically weak students to get education, hence universities should take decisions keeping the interest of students paramount.

According to the order issued by the government, to ensure equality of examination fees in state universities, examination fees per semester have been fixed for various courses. Under this, the examination fee per semester has been fixed at Rs 800 for courses like BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, B.Ed, B.P.Ed, BJMC, BFA and BVoc, Rs 1000 for courses like LLB, B.Sc Agriculture (Hons), B.Tech, Biotech and Rs 1500 per semester for courses like BDS, Nursing, BAMS and BUMS.

The Higher Education Minister directed the state universities to ensure complete compliance with the government orders and maintain financial discipline. He said that universities should also make efforts towards strengthening their resources, starting new courses and improving financial management, so that the institutions can become self-reliant.

In the meeting, officials and university representatives also presented their suggestions on the financial condition of the universities, challenges related to examination conduct and possible solutions. The Higher Education Minister said that the Yogi government is ready to provide necessary support considering the actual needs of the universities, but following the government orders is mandatory for all institutions.

In the meeting, MLC Umesh Dwivedi, Avnish Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary M.P. Aggarwal, Secretary Amrit Tripathi, Vice Chancellor Lucknow University Prof. Jai Prakash Saini and other officials of the university were present.
