Danger looms over AFG vs SL series, fear of postponement of all matches; Big report came out

After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2026, teams around the world have now started preparing for the upcoming bilateral series. In this sequence, a white ball series was to be played between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, the schedule of which was also released in advance.

However, now clouds of crisis are looming over the organization of this series (AFG vs SL). According to reports, considering the current situation, this entire series can be postponed indefinitely. At present, no official statement has come from the cricket boards of both the countries regarding this.

AFG vs SL: Series may be postponed due to geopolitical tension

According to a report by Cricinfo, concerns regarding organizing this series have increased due to the ongoing military conflict in West Asia. The report states that Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards have agreed that it may be difficult to organize this series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under the current circumstances.

Although both the boards are currently considering other options, but due to logistics and security challenges, shifting this series to another country is not considered easy. In such a situation, there is a possibility that this tour may be postponed for the time being.

AFG vs SL: Six matches were to be played between the two countries

A total of six white ball matches were to be played between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka on this tour (AFG vs SL). The series was to begin with a three-match T20 series, the matches of which were scheduled to be played in Sharjah on March 13, 15 and 17.

After this, three ODI matches were to be played between the two teams, which were to be held in Dubai on 20, 22 and 25 March. But looking at the current situation, the chances of this series being played as per the scheduled schedule are now considered very less. Recently, some matches of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League-2 to be held in Nepal were also postponed for the same reason.

AFG vs SL: Afghanistan team was going to play under the new captain

This series (AFG vs SL) was considered special for the Afghanistan team, because the team was going to take the field for the first time under the captaincy of Ibrahim Zadran. Rashid Khan stepped down from the captaincy after his disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, after which Zadran was given this responsibility.

In such a situation, this white ball series (AFG vs SL) against Sri Lanka was going to be the first big opportunity for Zadran as captain. However, now if this series gets postponed then the Afghanistan team may have to wait a little longer to start with their new captain.

AFG vs SL: Both teams had mixed performance in T20 World Cup

In the T20 World Cup 2026, the Afghanistan team was eliminated from the group stage itself, due to which many questions were raised regarding the performance of the team. At the same time, the Sri Lankan team also could not live up to the expectations and could not progress beyond the Super-8 stage.
