UEFA Champions League 2025-26: Real Madrid’s Carreras to miss Man City clash, Mbappe not training

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Carreras will miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Manchester City, while star striker Kylian Mbappe did not train with his teammates on Monday as he continues to recover from a knee sprain.

Madrid’s top-scorer Mbappe is not expected to feature at the Santiago Bernabeu against Pep Guardiola’s side because of the knee problem that has troubled him since last December.

Carreras “has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the calf of his right leg,” Madrid said in a statement on Monday, without specifying how long he will be sidelined.

Los Blancos will head into the clash against Manchester City with several absentees, with Jude Bellingham, Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes, Dani Ceballos and David Alaba all currently recovering from injuries.

The biggest concern for Madrid remains Mbappe’s likely absence, with no clear timeline yet for the France captain’s return, although Spanish media reports suggest he is targeting the return leg next week.

Mbappe has missed Madrid’s last three matches and recently travelled to Paris for tests and treatment on his knee.
