The young batsman, who was struggling throughout the tournament, proved his worth with a strong performance against New Zealand on the biggest stage.

In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (8 March), Abhishek Sharma scored 52 runs in just 21 balls. In his swashbuckling innings, he hit six fours and three sixes. Abhishek completed his half-century in just 18 balls, becoming the fastest half-century in the history of T20 World Cup final. It was also the joint third fastest fifty in the history of T20 World Cup.

Shivam Dubey’s bat did wonders

In this match, Abhishek Sharma along with Sanju Samson gave a great start to India. Both the batsmen added 96 runs in the powerplay, which was the joint highest powerplay score in T20 World Cup history. This aggressive start laid a strong foundation for the Indian team’s big score.

In the final, Abhishek Sharma used all-rounder Shivam Dubey’s bat and not his own. After the match, he revealed that on the morning of the final he had decided to try something different. Abhishek said that he batted with Dubey’s bat and thanked him for it. He told that in the morning he felt that he should try something new. Shubman Gill was not in the team at that time, so he took his bat from Shivam Dubey.
