Kabaddi player dies due to drug overdose, AAP government’s claims exposed: Angad Dutta

Jalandhar: Punjab State Congress Secretary Angad Dutta has said that the tragic death of a 19-year-old Kabaddi player due to suspected drug overdose has once again exposed the Punjab government’s claims of “war on drugs”. This incident has raised serious questions on the claims of the Bhagwant Mann led government to eliminate drug addiction from Punjab. Reacting sharply to the incident, Angad Dutta said that the death of a young player is not only a tragedy for a family, but it is also a reminder of how the demon of drug addiction is destroying the future of the youth of Punjab.

It is noteworthy that the body of 19-year-old state level Kabaddi player Vanshdeep (Vansh), resident of Udhowal village of Jalandhar, was recovered under suspicious circumstances near Baloki Kheda Road on March 7, 2026. The primary suspicion is that the death of the young player was due to drug overdose.

Angad Dutta said, “Before coming to power, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised that drug addiction would be eradicated from Punjab within months. Today the ground reality is that youth are still losing their lives due to drug addiction, while the government is busy only in announcements and publicity campaigns.”

He further said that the death of a talented Kabaddi player shows how deeply drug addiction has penetrated rural areas and among young athletes. He said, “When a player, who should represent the strength and discipline of Punjab, becomes a victim of drug addiction, it is a clear indication that the government has completely failed to control the drug network.”

Dutta demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident and strict action against those supplying drugs in the area. He urged the Punjab government to rise above slogans and take concrete steps to save the future of the youth of Punjab. He said, “Punjab cannot afford to lose another generation to drugs. The government must accept its failure and take immediate effective action before more youth lose their lives due to drug addiction.”
