IPL 2026 schedule announcement: BCCI secretary reveals big detail on much-awaited decision
New Delhi: Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has revealed a big update on the schedule announcement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Saikia said that the BCCI will release the schedule for the first 20 days of the IPL 2026 by March 12.
The 19th edition of the IPL is scheduled to run from March 28 to May 31, following a change in the initial window, which was initially between March 26 and May 30.
“We plan to announce the IPL 2026 schedule by March 12. For now, we are going to announce the IPL schedule for the first 20 days,” Saikia told IANS.
The remainder of the tournament’s schedule is likely to be announced on a later date as BCCI awaits the dates of assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu.
Preparations underway ahead of IPL 2026
While the announcement date is out, teams have kicked off their pre-season preparations ahead of the 19th edition. Five-time winners Chennai Super Kings began their training on March 1 at their High-Performance Centre in Navalur, in the attendance of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and former captain MS Dhoni.
Elsewhere, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru participated in a small preparation camp at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on February 10, while 2022 winner Gujarat Titans practised at the Miraj International Cricket Stadium in Nathdwara.
Punjab Kings held a training session in Abu Dhabi in early February. They are currently in the middle of a training camp in Dharamsala. 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad started a preparatory camp on March 1 with their domestic players, while five-time champions Mumbai Indians have also begun preparations for the upcoming season.
Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders will start their preparations in the coming days, with the former set to assemble for a practice camp in Jaipur from March 15 and the latter on March 18.
Delhi Capitals held a camp in Hyderabad, while Lucknow Super Giants practised in Lucknow recently.
