Congress attacks Jaishankar’s statement on West Asia tension
Congress termed Subrahmanyam Jaishankar’s statement given in Parliament on the West Asia crisis as absurd. The party raised serious questions regarding the foreign policy, energy security and global strategy of the Narendra Modi government.
New Delhi: The debate in Indian politics has also intensified regarding the increasing tension in West Asia and the ongoing military conflict between Iran, Israel and America. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar gave a statement clarifying the government’s position on this issue in Parliament, but Congress has completely rejected his statement. Congress said that the Foreign Minister’s statement failed to understand the real situation and there was no clear strategy visible in it to protect India’s interests.
Congress alleges that India’s foreign policy should be more balanced and strategic in the current global circumstances. The party also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy appears adventurous in many respects, which may affect the country’s long-term interests.
Foreign Minister’s statement in Parliament
Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, while clarifying the government’s position in Parliament, said that India is in favor of reducing tension and restoring peace in the region. He said that India appeals to all parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
The External Affairs Minister also said that the safety of Indian citizens living in the region is the biggest priority for the government. A large number of Indians work in many countries of West Asia and the government is constantly monitoring their situation.
He also said that energy security and safeguarding business interests are also important for the government, as the Middle East is a major source of oil and gas for India.
Congress called the statement ‘absurd’
After this statement of the Foreign Minister, Congress has given a sharp reaction. The party termed his statement as absurd and said it shows a lack of understanding of the seriousness of the current crisis.
The Congress’ Department of External Affairs issued a statement saying that the Foreign Minister’s statement neither reflected a correct analysis of the complex situation in West Asia nor did it give a clear view of India’s role.
This statement was issued by the Foreign Affairs Department of the Congress, which is headed by former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid. The party says that a big country like India should adopt a more clear and effective stance in times of international crisis.
Questions also raised on the issue of Iranian ship
The Congress also said in its statement that the recent sinking of an Iranian ship took place in a strategically important maritime area for India in West Asia, but no clear protest was lodged by the External Affairs Minister.
The party says that this incident was serious in terms of regional security and international law. In such a situation, the Government of India should have taken a clear stand on this. Congress alleged that the government’s response was relatively weak and sent a message that India was avoiding giving a strong response to such incidents.
There was no condemnation even on target killing
Congress pointed out another flaw in the Foreign Minister’s statement and said that it did not even condemn the target killing of the head of a sovereign nation. Such incidents are very serious in international politics and it is necessary to take a clear stand on them. Congress said that India has always talked about respect for international law and sovereignty, hence it was necessary to give clear condemnation in such cases.
Questions raised regarding energy security
Congress also said that the Foreign Minister’s statement did not reveal any concrete plan regarding India’s energy security. In the current global conditions, the supply of oil and gas may be affected. In such a situation, it is important that India prepares an alternative strategy to meet its energy needs.
According to the Congress, the External Affairs Minister’s statement did not make it clear how India will diversify its energy supply and strengthen energy sovereignty in the future.
Demand for clear strategy regarding global changes
The Congress External Affairs Department said that the world is changing rapidly and instability is increasing in many areas. At such a time, India needs a clear and well-thought-out foreign policy.
The party said that the Foreign Minister’s statement does not show any deep understanding of these global changes. Along with this, no clear roadmap has emerged to protect India’s long-term interests.
Comment on PM Modi’s foreign policy also
Congress in its statement has also raised questions on the foreign policy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party said that the foreign policy of the present government appears adventurous in many respects.
Congress alleges that due to some decisions of the government, India’s traditional diplomatic strength is weakening. The party also said that the weakening of the Indian Foreign Service is a matter of concern for the country. Congress believes that since independence, India has made many important achievements in the field of diplomacy and it is important to maintain these achievements.
