Drone attack on UAE Consulate in Iraq, major development amid Middle East tension

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Consulate in the Kurdish region of Iraq was targeted by a drone attack early Tuesday amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The attack came just hours after the UAE expressed displeasure at being “unfairly dragged” into the regional conflict.

According to reports, the consulate building has suffered structural damage in the drone attack. However, it is a matter of relief that there is no news of any casualty in this incident. Local administration and security agencies have started investigating the matter.

Tension increased amid conflict

Recent tensions in the Middle East escalated when the US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28. After this, the security situation in the entire area has become sensitive.

The UAE Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “dangerous provocation to regional security and stability.” The ministry clearly said that targeting any diplomatic mission or complex is a flagrant violation of international law and diplomatic rules.

However, UAE has not yet clarified who carried out the drone attack or from where the drone was launched.

UAE had already expressed its displeasure

A day before the attack, the UAE had issued a statement saying that it was being targeted in this regional conflict “without any reason”. UAE also clarified that it is not involved in any military action against Iran and does not want to get into this war.

Australia sent military aid

In view of the increasing threat in the region, Australia has decided to send military assistance to strengthen the security of UAE. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that Australia will send missiles and military aircraft to the UAE.

He said the move is purely defensive and aimed at ensuring the safety of Australian citizens and UAE allies present in the region.

Australia will also deploy an E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning and Control System aircraft. This aircraft will monitor the airspace of the Gulf region for the initial four weeks and keep an eye on potential threats.

Apart from this, Australia will also provide medium range advanced air-to-air missiles to UAE. This decision has been taken after high-level talks between the Australian Prime Minister and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Trump indicated that the war will end soon

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has indicated that this military operation may end soon. He said that America wants to eliminate the threat present in the region forever through this campaign.

Trump also said that the purpose of this action is to stabilize oil and gas prices and reduce the economic burden on American families. He described this military intervention as a “short-term action” and said that its objective is to eliminate the threats present in the region.

This ongoing conflict in the Middle East has now lasted for more than 10 days and new developments are continuously emerging. In such a situation, experts believe that the regional security situation may become more sensitive in the coming days.
