India did not give the location of Iranian ship, government rejected Turkish report
The Government of India has completely rejected the misleading report of the Turkish newspaper **Yeni Safak**, which claimed that India agreed to share the location of an Iranian naval ship (IRIS Dena) with Israel, due to which it sank. The Fact Check Unit of Press Information Bureau (PIB) has termed this claim as **completely fake** and based on wrong information.
This controversy started with a video viral on social media, which was widely spread by Pakistani propaganda accounts. In the doctored clip, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi is seen saying that India, as a strategic partner of Israel, informed Israel about the exact location of the Iranian ship after it entered international waters under a “new strategic deal”. Among the things said, it was also claimed that India had no role in any joint torpedo attack by Israel and the US, while emphasis was laid on focusing on Pakistan and thanking Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for helping in Russian fuel imports.
PIB Fact Check clarified that this is an **AI made deepfake video**, which has been digitally altered to give these controversial statements a false name of General Dwivedi. The Army Chief did not say any such thing. Original, unedited footage is of General Dwivedi participating in a discussion with Harsh V. Pant, Vice President, Observer Research Foundation, at **Raisina Dialogue 2026**. In the actual session, they discussed the lessons learned from Operation Sindoor, the changing nature of modern warfare, India’s strong response to terrorism, and the need for better coordination among the defense services—none of which involved Iran, Israel, or intelligence sharing.
PIB appealed to people to be cautious of such misleading content and report suspicious content on WhatsApp at +91 8799711259. The incident reflects a coordinated disinformation effort, delivered from Pakistani sources to Turkish outlets, with the aim of escalating conflict amid tensions in the region. The official source has reiterated that India’s stand on this incident remains the same, and it has no involvement in sharing such intelligence.
