Big news for UPI users: Now mobile number will not be visible while making payment, do this easy setting like this
UPI Mobile Number Hide: UPI has become the most popular method of digital payment in India. Today, people use UPI for almost everything, from small purchases to electricity bills, online shopping and money transfers. However, sometimes when you make a payment to an unknown person using UPI, the other person can also access your mobile number. This increases the risk of privacy and security, because the number can be misused. Now, UPI users have got relief in the form of an option through which you can hide your mobile number and continue making payments as usual.
Now hiding mobile number has become easier
Many UPI apps now allow users to set a UPI ID or a different number than the mobile number linked to their account. With this, transactions continue to happen normally, but the receiver will not see your real mobile number while making the payment. This feature is currently available on many popular apps, like Google Pay (GPay) and PhonePe, where users can easily change their UPI ID.
Hide your mobile number on GPay like this
If you use Google Pay, you can hide your number with these simple steps:
- First of all, open the Google Pay app on your smartphone.
- Next, tap on the profile photo or icon in the top right corner of the home screen.
- You will see the bank account option here; Click on it.
- Choose the primary bank account you use for most payments.
- Select the option to manage UPI number or UPI ID.
- Here, you can delete or edit the ID associated with your mobile number and create a new random UPI ID.
Now, whenever you make a payment, the new UPI ID will appear in place of the mobile number.
Same facility is available in PhonePe also
Users can also change their mobile number ID by going to Settings and UPI ID section in the PhonePe app. Experts always recommend creating a UPI ID that does not match your name or mobile number, like safety.pay@okaxis or any random ID.
Take these important precautions while using UPI
To keep digital payments secure, it is important to keep a few things in mind:
- Never share your UPI PIN with anyone.
- Avoid scanning suspicious links or QR codes.
- Never share bank or payment information on unknown calls.
- Make payments only through trusted and official apps.
- Keep checking the security settings of your app frequently.

UPI is growing rapidly in India
UPI has become the fastest growing digital payment platform in India. It is run by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Billions of transactions are processed through UPI every month, making it one of the largest real-time payment systems in the world.
Why is it important to hide your mobile number?
This change can significantly strengthen user security. Without giving out your mobile number, the risk of spam calls, marketing messages and cyber fraud will be significantly reduced. Scammers often target people by taking their phone numbers, but this new feature can significantly reduce that threat.
