Indian Navy’s strength in sea increased, successful test of indigenous ADC-150 container from P-8I

New Delhi: The strength of the Indian Navy is going to increase further in the sea. A major step has been taken to strengthen the logistics capability of the Navy. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Navy together conducted in-flight release test of indigenous air droppable container ‘ADC-150’ from P-8I aircraft off the coast of Goa. This test was conducted in different difficult conditions and all the tests were completely successful. According to the information, a total of four successful tests of ADC-150 were conducted between 21 February and 1 March 2026.

What is ADC-150?

ADC-150 is an indigenous air droppable container designed and developed in India. It is capable of delivering goods weighing up to 150 kg to ships at sea. It has been specially designed for those naval ships which are deployed in the deep sea, far away from the coast. In case of any emergency, necessary equipment, relief material or medical support can be airdropped directly from P-8I aircraft to ships. This will strengthen the operational and logistics capability of the Navy.

Many institutions worked together to develop

Many labs of DRDO have worked together in this project. Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam was the nodal lab for this entire activity. Whereas Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra developed a special parachute system for this. Apart from this, Center for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), Bengaluru provided flight clearance and certification, while Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad provided technical support in the tests.

The system will soon join the Navy

Keeping in mind the needs of the Indian Navy, the ADC-150 system has been prepared in a short time. All its developmental flight tests have been completed successfully. In such a situation, it is expected that this system will soon be included in the Indian Navy. With its inclusion, the time to provide emergency help to ships deployed at sea will be significantly reduced and the operational capability of the Navy will also increase manifold.
