Australia again gave asylum to Iranian female footballers, till now seven players have been displaced

Wellington: Two more members of Iran’s women’s football team have been granted asylum in Australia. The country’s Home Minister Tony Burke gave this information on Wednesday. This team came to Australia to participate in a tournament before the start of the war in Iran.

Burke told reporters in Canberra that Australia had earlier given asylum to five players and now two more players have been given asylum. Both of them had sought asylum before other members of their team could be taken to the airport. The Iranian team arrived in Australia to participate in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup last month, just before the Iran war began. His team was quickly eliminated from the tournament after which the team had to return to their country where the situation is bad due to war. The Iran team touring Australia included 26 players and support staff members.

Burke said all team members were offered asylum. The rest of the team boarded a flight from Sydney to Iran late on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, protests took place at the team hotel and airport. Iranian Australian citizens tried to prevent the women from leaving the country, citing fears for the team’s safety in Iran.
