A new era for PSL: eight teams, new venues and a packed schedule

The 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League is set to begin on March 26 at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The opening match will see defending champions Lahore Qalandars take on newcomers Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen in what promises to be an exciting start to the tournament.

The knockout phase will begin on May 2, with the first qualifier scheduled in Rawalpindi. Eliminator 1 will be played in Multan on May 3, while Eliminator 2 will take place in Lahore on May 5. The grand final of the tournament is slated for May 10, also at Gaddafi Stadium.

PSL expanded tournament with new teams and venues

PSL 2026 will be played across six venues: Faisalabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and Rawalpindi. Notably, Faisalabad and Peshawar will host PSL matches for the first time in the league’s history.

For the first time, the tournament will feature eight teams. Two new franchises, Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen, and Rawalpindi Pindiz have been added to the competition after being sold for PKR 175 crore and PKR 245 crore respectively. Each team will play 10 matches in the league stage, with the top four advancing to the playoffs.

The tournament schedule also includes 12 double-headers, with Gaddafi Stadium hosting three of them.

Gaddafi Stadium to host 15 matches

Gaddafi Stadium will stage 15 matches during the tournament. Lahore Qalandars, champions of the 2022, 2023, and 2025 editions, are set to play at least five matches at the venue, including the highly anticipated clash against Karachi Kings on March 29. The stadium will also host double-headers on March 29, April 19, and April 25.

Meanwhile, the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar will host its first-ever PSL match on March 28 when Peshawar Zalmi face Rawalpindi Pindiz in an afternoon fixture.

Faisalabad will host seven league matches, marking the city’s debut as a PSL venue. Lahore Qalandars will play four matches there, while Peshawar Zalmi, champions of the 2017 season, will feature in three games.

The first match in Faisalabad will take place on April 9 between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United as an afternoon fixture.

Multan will host four evening matches, all involving the home side, Multan Sultans. Meanwhile, the National Bank Stadium in Karachi will stage six matches, while the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host 11 matches, including the first qualifier.

Rawalpindi will also host six matches of Islamabad United and five games of Rawalpindi Pindiz during the upcoming season.
