The Australian passport is the most expensive in the world, with its citizens paying AU$422 (US$302) to obtain the international travel document, following a price increase in January 2026.
The Mexican passport ranked second in terms of cost at US$255, followed by the American passport at US$208 and the New Zealand passport at US$153.
Using updated 2026 pricing data from government sources and the Henley Passport Index, British comparison website Compare the Market analyzed and ranked passports based on both their cost and global travel power.
According to the Henley & Partners’ Henley Passport Index updated on March 11, the Australian passport was the seventh most powerful in the world, offering visa-free access to 182 destinations.
While the Singaporean passport topped the global power ranking with visa-free access to 193 destinations, the application fee is relatively low at around $55.
Globally, the value of passports around the world is generally decreasing.
Compare the Market found that in 17 of the 25 countries researched, the number of countries passport holders can travel to without a visa had fallen since 2025.
