Sona Mohapatra condemns Badshah’s ‘Tateeree’ amid social media backlash

Singer Sona Mohapatra has spoken out against rapper-singer Badshah following the release of his new song Look forward to it.

On Wednesday, March 11, the 49-year-old lyricist took to her official Instagram to call out Badshah over his latest track.

She wrote that simply calling oneself a “son of Haryana” does not excuse such content and urged artists to be more responsible, especially given Haryana’s struggles with gender inequality.

She added a message with the note,“& now young girls in uniforms as props … Stop with this brain & soul rot. Real men exist. The good. The honourable. The ones who show up & stand up, let’s make them the heroes ? Let’s make them the ones we desire ? #India deserves better”.

Furthermore, she penned, “Not the first time we’ve seen this template. A man puffing up his chest, flexing masculinity, objectifying women, and projecting himself as some irresistible hero while women exist merely to drool around him…This isn’t creativity. It’s the laziest trope in pop culture.”

For the unversed, the song, starring Simran Jaglan, displayed girls in school uniforms dancing on a Haryana Roadways bus, doing moves that many found offensive.

However, the controversy grew on social media, drawing sharp criticism from fans and public figures.

In response, Badshah apologized on his official IG handle, saying he never wanted to offend anyone.

He explained that the lyrics reflect hip-hop competition, not women or children, and said he is proud of his Haryana roots and asked fans to forgive him.

Following the backlash, Haryana Police registered an FIR against Badshah and initiated a lookout notice.

Notably, Badshah also confirmed that Look forward to it has been taken down from all platforms.
