Big revelation in ODI rankings: Smriti Mandhana on top, will Harmanpreet Kaur be able to save her place?
New Delhi. Indian women’s cricket star batsman Smriti Mandhana remains at the top position in the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) new ODI batting rankings (rankings released). In the rankings released on Tuesday, March 10, Smriti has retained this position after her continuous excellent performance. Apart from them, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is also included in the top 10 and is at the 8th position.
However, recently India had to face 0-3 defeat in the three-match ODI series played against Australia. After this defeat, India’s other batsman Jemimah Rodrigues has fallen one place in the rankings to 12th position.
The New Zealand team performed brilliantly in the home series. New captain Mellie Kerr performed impressively in both batting and bowling. He took four wickets in the opening match and seven wickets in the second match. This feat makes her the seventh player to take seven or more wickets in women’s ODIs. Due to this brilliant performance, Kerr has moved up five places to 11th position in the bowlers’ rankings and to fifth position in the all-rounder list.
New Zealand’s other star players Brooke Halliday and Maddy Green also jumped in the rankings. Halliday scored 157 not out off 117 balls in the first match, while Green scored 67 not out in the first match and 27 not out in the second match.
West Indies opener Hasini Perera led the team to victory by scoring an unbeaten half-century in the third and final match of the home series against Sri Lanka. Due to this performance, Hasini has reached 28th position in the rankings, which is a big jump of 15 places.
Apart from this, Imesha Dulani moved up 17 places to be at number 72. Her teammate Kavisha Dilhari has moved up three places to 21st in the bowling rankings and to 11th in the all-rounder list. West Indies’ AF Fletcher moved up four places to seventh position in the bowlers’ list by taking three wickets in the last two matches.
These rankings updates from Indian and international women’s cricket reflect the continued stellar performances and competitiveness of the players, who will play a vital role in the upcoming series and tournaments.
