New Delhi: Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Wednesday took the oath of office as the new Lieutenant Governor (Lt. Governor) of Delhi. On this occasion, many prominent leaders including US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar congratulated him for the new responsibility. Sandhu has taken over this post in place of Vinay Kumar Saxena.
Let us tell you, America’s Ambassador Sergio Gore congratulated Sandhu by posting on social media platform X. He wrote that Taranjit Singh Sandhu is his good friend and has played an important role in strengthening India-US relations during his tenure as India’s Ambassador to the US. Gore expressed confidence that Sandhu will work with the same dedication in serving the people of Delhi.
Let us tell you, Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been an experienced diplomat and has diplomatic experience of more than three decades. He served as India’s Ambassador to the US from 2020 to 2024 and during this time he contributed significantly in strengthening India-US strategic relations.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also congratulated Sandhu on his new responsibility. He said that it is a pleasure to see him taking oath as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and he is confident that Sandhu will serve the people of Delhi with full dedication.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present at the swearing-in ceremony held in the presence of Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay.
The appointment of Taranjit Singh Sandhu is part of a larger administrative reshuffle of governors and lieutenant governors across the country. Under this reshuffle, Vinay Kumar Saxena has been made the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Speaking to the media after taking oath, Sandhu said that Delhi has been his “workplace”. He told that he has studied in Delhi and also worked here. He said that all political parties and stakeholders will have to work together to deal with the challenges of the capital.
Sandhu said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a comprehensive vision for the country and being the capital, Delhi’s responsibility becomes even more important. He said that everyone will have to work together to convert challenges into opportunities so that Delhi’s development can get a new impetus.
