Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing and Oil Refinery), Ministry of Petroleum, presented an overview of the country’s fuel situation in a press conference on Wednesday. He said, “India is importing its crude oil from around 40 different countries rather than depending on one region. India’s total consumption of crude oil is 189 million metric tonnes and requires around 5.5 million barrels of oil per day. Despite the global challenges, the supply chain is not disrupted. Notably, two large cargoes of crude oil have left for India recently.”

Less dependence on ‘Strait of Hormuz’
The government has also given great information about the supply from the ‘Strait of Hormuz’, which is considered sensitive in world politics. India has developed alternative ways to strengthen energy security. At present, 70 percent of India’s crude oil reaches the country through routes other than the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, regional tensions have minimal impact on India’s fuel supply. Also, the supply of PNG for domestic use (PNG) and CNG for vehicles (CNG) is completely normal, Sharma explained.
No need to apply for LPG cylinder
Speaking on the confusion among citizens regarding the delivery of gas cylinders, Sujata Sharma said, “There is no need to panic or panic booking for LPG cylinders. Delivery of cylinders is being ensured within an average of two and a half days (60 hours) after booking.” He once again highlighted that although the global situation is challenging, India’s energy supply is stable and fully under control.
Security of Indian ships in Hormuz area
At present, India has a total of 28 ships in the Hormuz area and their security has been ensured. 24 of these ships are in the western part of the Strait of Hormuz and have 677 Indian sailors on board. While 4 ships are in the eastern region and have 11 Indian sailors on them. The movement of all these ships and sailors is closely monitored by the government and all safety precautions are being taken.
