Nahid Rana Runs Through Pakistan as Bangladesh Clinch Dhaka Encounter

The 23-year-old Nahid Rana delivered a brilliant spell to dismantle Pakistan in the first ODI played at Dhaka.

He conceded only 24 runs in 7 overs while picking 5 wickets at an economy of 3.40, helping the side to restrict Pakistan to 114 runs. With a low target on board, Bangladesh went on to secure an 8-wicket victory in 1st ODI of Pakistan tour of Bangladesh 2026 at Dhaka.

After invited to bat first, the opener duo Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat opened the innings while Taskin Ahmed opened the bowling attack.

With Farhan’s dismissal for 27 runs for Nahid Rana, he went on to dismiss Shamyl Hussain and Maaz Sadaqat for 4 and 18 runs.

Nahid Rana’s on-slaughter continued as his picked the wickets of Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan for 5 and 10 runs respectively.

With their dismissals, Pakistan lost five wickets for 69 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged the wickets of Abdul Samad and Hussain Talat for 0 and 4 runs, Faheem Ashraf showed some resistance scoring 37 runs before falling prey to Mustafizur Rahman.

With Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim sent back to dugout, Pakistan went on to lose all 10 wicket scoring only 114 runs.

Nahid Rana picked 5 wickets while Mehidy Hasan bagged 3 wickets and Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman completed their tally with 1 wickets each.

Chasing 115 run target, Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan Tamim opened the innings while Shaheen Afridi opened the bowling attack.

Afridi bagged the wicket of Saif Hassan for 4 runs while Mohammd Wasin bagged the wicket of Najmul Hossain Shanto for 27 runs.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim remained unbeaten with 67 runs and completed the chase in the 16th overs.

Nahid Rana was named player of the Match. Speaking on the post match presentation, Rana said, “This Mirpur ground, it was my first match. International start was special. I am able to do something good for the team. Feeling good.”

“Yes of course every player wants that for the team he will execute his best performance in every match. Sometimes that thing… I mean match to match. I will try to keep this performance going,” concluded Rana.

The second match of the ODI series will be played on March 13 at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket stadium, Dhaka.
