Kangana Ranaut to star in 26/11-based film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata

Mumbai: Actor Kangana Ranaut is set to headline a new film inspired by real-life events from the 2008 Mumbai attacks. The project, tentatively titled Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, will reportedly focus on the dramatic events that unfolded at Cama and Albless Hospital during the terror attacks on November 26, 2008. According to reports, Ranaut will portray a staff nurse in the film, which aims to highlight the courage of hospital workers who protected patients amid the chaos.

The film is expected to revisit one of the lesser-known chapters of the attacks by focusing on the actions of medical staff and other employees who helped safeguard lives during the crisis.

Film to recreate events at Cama and Albless Hospital

According to reports, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata will depict the tense moments at Cama and Albless Hospital during the early hours of the 26/11 attacks.

On the night of November 26, 2008, two Pakistani terrorists — Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan — entered the hospital premises while carrying out coordinated attacks across Mumbai.

The attackers reportedly killed security personnel and injured hospital staff members while attempting to take control of the building.

The hospital quickly became a critical location during the unfolding crisis, particularly because of its proximity to several areas targeted during the attacks.

A shootout between the terrorists and Mumbai Police later took place in the surrounding area, adding to the tension and fear within the hospital complex.

Story to highlight courage of hospital staff

Unlike many films that focus on the security forces involved in the attacks, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata will reportedly centre on the role played by hospital employees and support staff.

During the attack, doctors, nurses and other workers took immediate steps to protect patients despite the grave danger.

Reports suggest that staff members quickly shut doors and windows, switched off lights and turned off mobile phones to avoid drawing the attention of the terrorists.

Patients were quietly moved to safer areas of the hospital while the staff attempted to maintain calm and continue caring for those admitted.

These actions helped prevent further casualties and demonstrated remarkable courage and presence of mind during the crisis.

The film’s makers have described the project as a cinematic tribute to these unsung heroes whose actions often remained outside the spotlight.

Kangana Ranaut to portray a nurse

Kangana Ranaut will reportedly play the role of a staff nurse who becomes a central figure in the story.

The character is expected to represent the bravery and determination shown by hospital workers who risked their lives to ensure the safety of patients.

Actor Girija Oak has also been cast in a prominent role in the film.

Girija Oak is known for her performances in films such as Shor in the City, Qala and Jawan, as well as the web series Inspector Zende.

The film’s narrative is expected to combine personal stories with the larger context of the terror attacks, providing a human perspective on the tragedy.

Manoj Tapadia to make directorial debut

The project is being directed by Manoj Tapadia, who will be making his feature film directorial debut with Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata.

Tapadia began his career as a copywriter before working on dialogues and songs for various projects. He later moved into advertising, gaining experience in storytelling and visual narratives.

The upcoming film will mark his first full-length feature as a director.

Reports indicate that filming has already been completed and the project is currently in the post-production stage.

The makers are reportedly planning to release the film in theatres in late 2026.

Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming projects

Apart from Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Kangana Ranaut has several projects lined up.

She is expected to appear alongside R. Madhavan in an upcoming thriller directed by A. L. Vijay.

Additionally, reports suggest that she is in discussions with filmmaker Aanand L. Rai regarding a possible sequel to the popular romantic comedy franchise Tanu Weds Manu, although a third instalment has not yet been officially confirmed.

With Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Ranaut appears set to return to a film rooted in real events, continuing a trend in her career of portraying strong characters in stories inspired by historical or political moments.

If the project proceeds as planned, the film will bring renewed attention to the bravery of hospital staff who played a vital role during one of India’s most tragic terrorist attacks.
