Serious allegations against contractor due to irregularities in road construction
Lucknow: Sachin Bajpai
Krishna Colony Welfare Committee has issued a complaint letter alleging irregularities in an important road construction project run by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA). In which the residents of the colony have accused the contractor of ignoring the standards and using substandard material. The issue has created a stir locally as it could affect the daily lives of hundreds of residents of the colony.
Krishna Colony, located in IIM Road, Raipur area, is one of the rapidly developing areas of Lucknow. Here the construction work of CC (concrete) road is going on by LDA from Avinash Singh’s house to Munendra Singh’s house. This project was started with the aim of strengthening the infrastructure of the colony, but now serious flaws are emerging in it.

Welfare Committee Chairman P.K. The letter signed by Rai clearly mentions that the contractor is not working as per the plan. According to the letter, the drainage drains are being built in the wrong direction, which has increased the possibility of water logging in the houses of the colony during the rainy season. This can not only cause property damage but can also cause health problems. Furthermore, substandard materials are being used in construction,
Which raises questions on the quality and durability of the road. The letter reads, “During the said work, the drainage is being done in the opposite direction due to which there is a possibility of water logging in the houses of the colony residents. Substandard material is being used by the contractor.” The committee has requested the LDA Director to conduct the investigation himself or through the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and get the work completed as per the standards.

Behind this complaint is a long standing problem of the residents of the colony. According to local residents, such irregularities are often seen in development works in the IIM Road area, where contractors compromise on quality in the pursuit of profit. A local resident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “We have complained several times, but no action is taken. Now it is creating problems even before the road is built. If the drainage is not done properly, the entire area will be submerged in monsoon.”
Krishna Colony Welfare Committee is a registered organization, and it actively works on issues related to the welfare and development of the colony. While there was no official response when LDA officials were contacted in this regard, the incident highlights the lack of monitoring of development projects in Lucknow, where local committees are often the ones who raise their voice.

Transparency and quality control is essential in such construction works. A “Misdirection of drainage is a major negligence. This not only increases the risk of floods but also reduces the lifespan of the road. LDA should intervene immediately.”
The residents of the colony are now waiting for the result of this complaint. If the investigation is delayed, the committee may consider further action, such as a strike or going to court. This incident can also become an example for other colonies of Lucknow, where there is a need to increase participation of residents in development works.
