Accusation of objectionable remarks on CM Mann, Congress raised the matter
K News Desktop-Congress has alleged that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann used derogatory and vulgar language about women during a government function organized in Sunam on March 8 on the occasion of International Women’s Day. In this matter, Punjab Congress has sent a complaint to the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women and has demanded a serious investigation and legal action into the matter.
Congress alleges that in his speech, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann used words that hurt the dignity of women, citing an incident from his college days. He reportedly said that when the girl wore a yellow suit, she was called ‘Bhirand’, and when the girl wore a green suit, remarks were made that she ‘came dressed in Pakistani clothes’. Congress says that these comments are not only derogatory to women but are also socially provocative.
Punjab Congress has written in its letter that these comments of the Chief Minister mainly fall under certain sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which include words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a woman, sexual harassment or sexual remarks and defamation. Congress has demanded the National Commission for Women to immediately investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action. The party says that if such language is used by the Chief Minister from the government platform, it will send a wrong message to the society and will have a negative impact on the safety and dignity of women.
Congress has also written in its letter that Articles 14, 15 and 21 of the Constitution of India give every citizen equality, freedom from discrimination and the right to live with dignity. Being the Chief Minister of a state, it is the responsibility of Bhagwant Mann to maintain the dignity of women and not reduce it.
