Jammu and Kashmir: Attempt to fire on former CM Farooq Abdullah, security personnel caught the attacker

Jammu, March 11. An attempt was made to fire on National Conference President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr. Farooq Abdullah here late on Wednesday evening. According to officials, Abdullah had reached a wedding ceremony in Greater Kailash area. Jammu and Kashmir Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary was also present with him.

Abdullah had gone to a wedding ceremony with Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary.

It can be seen in the CCTV footage of the incident that when Farooq Abdullah was going from a wedding, the attacker Kamal Singh Jamwal came from behind and pointed a gun at Abdullah’s head and tried to shoot. However, the security personnel present with Abdullah saved him and caught the attacker.

Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah, son of Jammu and Kashmir CM and Farooq Abdullah, wrote on X that a man came into the point-blank range with a loaded pistol and opened fire. Thank God that my father had a narrow escape. The question arises how a Z+ NSG protected person came so close to the former CM.

After the incident, Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary said – Police should be asked as to how such a big mistake happened in Royal Park. There was no one from the local police there. This is a huge security lapse.

Kamal Singh Jamwal had pointed the gun at Abdullah’s head.

Officials said that Farooq Abdullah and Surinder Chaudhary are safe. Police have started investigating the matter and the reasons behind the attack are being ascertained. After the incident, security agencies and police have surrounded the entire area and started investigation.

The attacker said – Farooq Abdullah was the target for 20 years

Attacker Kamal Singh Jamwal told the police- ‘I wanted to kill Farooq Abdullah for the last 20 years. This was my aim. The attacker has been using licensed weapons for the last several years.

It is said that Surjit Singh is a National Conference worker, whose son’s wedding was attended by Farooq Abdullah, Deputy CM Surinder Chaudhary and other big leaders. The attacker is Surjeet Singh’s cousin. Kamal Jamwal is a businessman who owns a few shops in the old city.

Farooq Abdullah has been CM 3 times

Dr. Farooq Abdullah is the President of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party and former Chief Minister. His father Sheikh Abdullah was also the Chief Minister while his son Omar Abdullah is currently the Chief Minister of the state. Farooq Abdullah studied medicine and worked as a doctor for some time, but later he joined politics and started doing active politics by joining his father’s party. Farooq Abdullah has been the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir three times. His first term was from 1982 to 1984, second from 1986 to 1990 and third from 1996 to 2002. Apart from this, he has also been a Lok Sabha member. He has also been the Union Energy Minister from 2009 to 2014.
