IPL 2026: The BCCI has finally announced the schedule for the opening phase of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The much-awaited tournament will begin on March 28, with the board releasing fixtures for the first 20 days of the competition.
Interestingly, the schedule has been divided into two parts. This decision was taken because assembly elections are set to take place in the states of West Bengal, Assamand Tamil Nadu during the same period. As a result, the remaining fixtures for the season are expected to be announced at a later stage.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will begin their Indian Premier League 2026 campaign with an away match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1. The game will take place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
The new season itself starts a few days earlier. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match on Saturday, March 28, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After their opening match in Lucknow, Delhi will return home for their first game in front of their fans. They will take on the Mumbai Indians on April 4.
The team will then continue their home run with another match against the Gujarat Titans on April 8. Following these two home games, Delhi will travel to Chennai for a challenging away fixture.
A Look Back at Delhi’s Previous Season
Delhi Capitals started the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League on a decent note, but things became difficult in the second half of the tournament. The team struggled to keep the momentum going and managed only one win in their final six matches.
Their hopes of reaching the playoffs were finally dashed after a heavy 59-run defeat against the Mumbai Indians in their second last match of the season.
