Parthiban apologises after remark about Trisha sparks reaction

A remark by filmmaker R. Parthiban at an awards show has drawn criticism online and pulled actor Trisha Krishnan into an unexpected controversy.

The controversial comment was made during the Galatta Awards, when the 67-year-old was asked about actors he had worked with by displaying their images on screen.

As Trisha’s photo appeared on the screen, he made a wordplay reference to her famous character Kundavai from Ponniyin Selvan: I.

“This Kundavai should be kept at home for a few days. That’s good. Don’t let her come out,” he said.

The remark quickly circulated on social media, drawing mixed reactions from viewers.

The Identity actress responded on Sunday evening in a post on X, saying she had been informed by event organisers that her name and photo were added to the programme at the last minute.

“I was informed by the organisers of a recent event that my name and picture were included at the last minute at the request of an individual conveyed through his assistant,” she wrote.

The 42-year-old actor also criticised the tone of the remark.

“A microphone doesn’t make a comment intelligent or humorous. It just makes stupidity louder. Crude words without knowledge say more about the speaker than the person they’re aimed at.”

Parthiban later issued an apology on X for the comment.

The conversation around the moment grew wider after the Aathi lead was recently seen arriving at a reception alongside actor-politician Vijay, whose wife Sangeeta Sornalingam has reportedly filed for divorce.

Vijay is also preparing for a bigger role in politics ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election.
