Telegram in big trouble at the direction of the center! Thousands of channels may be closed

Telegram in great discomfort. A notification has been issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. It has directed Telegram to remove ‘pirated’ movies and OTT content from its channel. This notification is issued under the Information Technology Act, 2000. According to sources, 3142 Telegram channels have already been identified for spreading ‘pirated content’.

‘Holprint’ versions of new images are regularly shared across numerous Telegram channels. This has already been complained by top OTT service platforms like Jio Cinema, Amazon Prime Video. Along with this, concern was expressed about facing huge losses as a result of such fraud. Illegal airing of new movies and web series is killing business. Finally, the center issued this directive.

Just a few days ago, the Center banned five OTT apps in India. They are – Mood X VIP, Quail Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Phil and Jugunu. It is learned that the OTT platforms have been warned by the Center several times before for displaying ‘obscene’ content. But despite that, they did not listen to that. Because of this, the center is taking strict action. The Center had earlier banned 18 OTT platforms in 2024 under the Information Technology Act (2021). Not only this, a case was also filed against the owner of the apps. Besides 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites, 10 apps and 57 websites have also been shut down by the Centre. Now look at Telegram. Now to see what action is taken against those channels if they don’t obey the instructions.
