Watch: Shivam Dube honours his father with T20 World Cup medal
Shivam Dube touched the hearts of many on social media when he chose to gift his T20 World Cup 2026 winner’s medal to his father. Dube, who played a crucial role in India‘s success throughout the tournament, was instrumental with both bat and ball, helping the team win their third World Cup title.
In a touching video, Dube placed the medal around his father’s neck, who was proudly wearing an Indian jersey and couldn’t hide his excitement. Dube shared a heartfelt post, calling his father his “real hero” and expressing his gratitude for his support.
The post quickly went viral, with fans and celebrities alike, including Anil Kapoor, sending their warm wishes and appreciation for the special moment.
Dube was one of India’s standout performers in the tournament, amassing 235 runs in nine games at an average of 39.16, along with a remarkable strike rate of 169.06. His vital contributions in matches against Pakistan, the Netherlands, England, and especially in the final, were crucial to India’s victory.
With the ball, Dube was often asked to step up in challenging moments. Although his economy rate was higher than usual, he picked up five wickets during the tournament, including bowling the tense final over in the semi-final against England.
“I just focused on backing myself. I knew the first two balls of the over would be key, so I made sure to get them right, as that could determine the outcome. It was already decided that I’d bowl the final over, and yes, I was nervous. Bowling the last over of a World Cup semi-final is never easy,” Dube said.
Dube’s journey back to home also grabbed attention. With flights unavailable on March 8 after the final, he chose to travel by train from Ahmedabad, making headlines with his down-to-earth choice. Dube will next be seen playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026.
