Relief after West Asia crisis… Indian Airlines resumes Riyadh flights from Thursday

New Delhi: Indian airlines will start flights to Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh from March 12. In a press release issued late Tuesday night by the Civil Aviation Ministry, it has been said that Air India and Air India Express are going to start flights to Riyadh from March 12. Indigo will also start flights between Mumbai and Riyadh from this date. Akasa Air has also decided to start flights between the two cities from Thursday.

The ministry said that all airlines are being allowed to operate flights only after fully considering the security situation. IndiGo on Wednesday said it will operate a total of 38 flights to eight cities in West Asia. Air India and Air India Express have also said to operate a total of 58 flights, including 36 special flights, to the UAE today. Their 22 scheduled flights will be to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Muscat in Oman. Due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, all flights to the region were halted on 28 February. Now operations are slowly being resumed.

According to the ministry, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in coordination with the authorities of various countries, has declared Muscat in Oman as an alternative airport for Indian airlines companies to the West Asian cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras-al-Khaimah, Al-Alam, Fujairah, Jeddah and Madinah. The ministry said that on March 09, a total of 45 flights arrived in India from various West Asian cities carrying 7,407 passengers.
